The children at Abbotswood can choose to have either a school dinner or a packed lunch.
School Dinners currently cost £2.20 per day or £11.00 per week. (Yrs 3-6 only)
As from September 1st 2014 ALL Reception and KS1 pupils (school years R, 1+2) are entitled to a FREE school meal at lunchtime. If you wish you can still send your child in with a packed lunch but we expect most pupils will be having a hot school meal. If you were entitled to free school meals under the old system (see the section headed Pupil Premium) you still need to apply as this will enable you to receive money off school trips and free breakfast food each day.
All children start their lunch time at 12:15pm and all children go back into class at 1:15pm for afternoon lessons. Children use the KS2 Hall for hot meals and the KS1 Hall for sandwiches.
We have an experienced set of dinner staff who are on duty over dinner time. Mrs S Trembling is the lead dinner lady and there is always a member of the Senior Leadership Team on duty each day should there be any problems.
There have recently been some changes to the payment of school dinners. Please see the letter below, which will explain our new approach to this.
Packed lunches should be wholesome and healthy.
You should try to include:
Starchy Foods - These include bread, rice, potatoes, pastas and others.
Protein Food - These include meat, eggs, beans, fish and others.
Vegetables or salad, and a portion of fruit.
A Dairy Item - This could be yoghurt or cheese.
