Here you will find all of the termly homework and newsletters for Foxes and Badgers classes, as well as information about some of the exciting activities that we have been doing in school. Children will be given spelling and maths homework on a weekly basis and we ask that parents hear their children read at least 4 times a week, as we see the best progress in those children who read regularly at home with an adult. Many thanks for your support in helping your child improve.

Little Red Big Bang! June 2019
We started the term with an exciting morning! We went on to the playground and found a basket that had been left for us containing lots of juicy, red apples and a keg of ginger beer. There was a letter with it from Tom Red, the character in our new story "Little Red". We tasted the apples and ginger beer, then we wrote adjectives to describe them. We finished our lesson by hearing the story.
This Balloon Rockets - March 2019
As it's British Science Week and the theme is 'Journeys', today we investigated forces by making balloons out of rockets. Working in pairs, we attached a piece of string to two chairs and threaded a straw through it. Then we blew up a balloon and taped it to the straw. When we let them go, we were amazed to see how quickly and how far they travelled!
Capacity Investigation - February 2019
Today we were learning all about the capacity of different containers. We estimated which container would hold the least amount of liquid and which would hold the most, then we used water and measuring jugs to check our answers.
Fact Hunt - January 2019
We went on a fact hunt today to find out facts all about Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. We are learning about his life in our topic lessons this term. Did you know that he was only 15 when he got his first pilot's license?
Repeating Patterns - December 2018
We have been busy learning about repeating patterns in our maths lessons this week. We used lots of different objects to create our own patterns, thinking about colours and shapes.
I chose 3D shapes to make a pattern! I made mine from 2D shapes!
My patterns repeat through colours!
Cloud Binoculars - October 2018
As part of our weather topic, today we made some cloud binoculars to help us to spot different types of clouds in the sky. We painted them blue, decorated them with cotton wool clouds and tied a piece of string through each hole. We had a great time cloud watching on the playground and we saw all sorts of different shapes!
A treasure hunt in English! September 2018
Today in English we went on a hunt for clues about a mystery visitor. We found blue fur, cakes and... a letter! When we got back to class we found out that the letter was from the character in our book, the Weather Monster.
Below is what Year 2 got up to last year! (2017-2018)
Today we were inventors in our topic lesson! First we designed our inventions, thinking about how they could be useful and what materials we could use to build them with. Then we made our inventions using scrap materials such as cardboard boxes, tubes and plastic bottles.
This is the 'Pump-a-nator"! It can be used to suck up ghosts and baddies.
These are cameras! Can you see the lenses and the flash?
In our P.E lessons this term we have been learning how to balance with our partners and ‘mirror’ our partners. We have learnt to use our bodies to create strong and creative balances. Here are some pictures of us practicing our balances on a tightrope to circus music.
Today in our topic lesson we went on a hunt in the wildlife garden for minibeasts. Before we set off, we learned that minibeasts are invertebrates and we talked about their habitats and where we would be likely to find them. We found worms under logs, woodlice under stones and even a caterpillar hiding in the leaves. When we got back to class we wrote a recount about all of the creatures that we had found.
The Gigantic Turnip
Today year 2 performed their assembly based on The Gigantic Turnip, the book that they have been reading and writing about in their English lessons, to the school and to parents. They acted, sang, showed their artwork and read some of their brilliant writing. Well done Foxes and Badgers!
George's Marvellous Medicine
In maths we have been learning about capacity and how we measure liquids in litres and millilitres. Linked to the book we have been reading in English - George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl - we had lots of fun making our own potions using recipes we had written in ml to help us.
Teddy Bear's Picnic
As part of our term 3 topic, Food Glorious Food, we designed and made our own healthy fruit skewers and cheese sandwiches to take to a teddy bear's picnic. We thought about healthy options for our picnic and why they help to keep our bodies strong.
In R.E. we have been learning about celebrations in different religions. We recreated a Shabbat evening meal, beginning with a blessing called kiddush and another blessing over a loaf of challah bread. We even made our own bread too!
