Year 5 – Making Blood
As part of our ‘Circulatory System’ Science topic, Year 5 have been busy making blood! We learnt that blood is made up of four elements: Red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma. We used our maths skills to work how much of each component we needed and then we got stuck in combining all the ‘ingredients’ (such as rice and dried beans) together to make the blood.
Last week in science, Year 5 were faced with the challenge of finding out all the ingredients of Alien Soup! Using a variety of different equipment and their knowledge of separating different materials, they were able to work out what each of the secret ingredients were in the alien’s favourite dish! There was all sorts in there, ranging from paper clips to sand! Yuck!
Outdoor Geography Fun!
Last week in Geography, Year 5 took their learning outside. Using everything they had learnt so far this term, they drew out the journey of a river. They used different coloured chalk to create their diagrams and added labels to identify certain key features. They did an excellent job and had great fun doing it!
Year 5 went into the forest area to take part in some outdoor learning. We also practiced our team building skills in a game of the floor is lava and we explored all the other fantastic things that the forest had to offer – including hammocks, climbing trees, balancing ropes, digging holes and making dens. We had a lot of fun!
Take a look at some of the pictures from our Cross Country run. We all did so well and really challenged ourselves.
During Art in Term 1, we created Greek plates and bowls. We used clay to create the pot and black paint to decorate with a pattern.
