At Abbotswood we try to prepare children for the many transitions they will experience during their school life. Events like starting school, moving on to new classes, a new Key Stage and eventually secondary school.
We ensure there are plenty of opportunities to visit school when starting in Reception and entry to school is phased over 3 weeks before children are in school for a whole day.
When moving from Year 2 to Year 3 children are changing to Key Stage 2 and we organise opportunities for children to visit the new playground and take part in activities in the new parts of school. In July all children have the chance to spend time with the teacher they will move on to in the next academic year.
Children moving to secondary school have plenty of opportunities to visit the three schools in the area. The tutors from these schools come to meet our students in the summer term of Year 6 and get to know them ready for them to start in Year 7.
