Together We Aim High, Believe and Achieve

Our Vision and Values

Together We Aim High, Believe and Achieve

At Abbotswood, we believe that all children are unique and have the potential to achieve great things. We work hard to instill in them high aspirations and a sense of believing in themselves to achieve their dreams.

At Abbotswood we value:

Responsibility - we stop and think before we act and take responsibility for our actions.

Empathy - we empathise with others and only use kind words and actions.

Sense of Pride - we walk quietly around our school, look after our environment and present ourselves and work with pride.

Perseverance - we work hard and persevere when things are challenging, not giving up.

Enthusiasm - we are enthusiastic about our learning; we do our best and aim high.

Curiosity - we are curious to find out more and ask questions to expand our knowledge.

Teamwork - we work well as part of a team by listening to others and sharing ideas.

Each value is focussed on, one a term, with the value of Teamwork being a focus throughout the year. During whole school assemblies, children who follow the value of the term are celebrated and thanked with a certificate.

The values of the school are linked with the school rules and our behaviour policy.

British Values

At school, we are committed to fostering an environment where every student feels valued, respected, and prepared to contribute positively to society. The teaching of British Values further enhances our school values and is central to this commitment as outlined by the Department for Education. These values are:

1. Democracy

We encourage students to understand and participate in democratic processes. Through activities like school council elections and classroom discussions, pupils learn the importance of having a voice and the responsibilities that come with it.

2. The Rule of Law

Understanding the importance of laws helps students recognize the difference between right and wrong. We emphasize the significance of rules in maintaining a safe and orderly environment, both within the school and in the wider community.

3. Individual Liberty

Students are taught to value their personal freedoms and are encouraged to make choices responsibly. We provide a supportive environment where they can express themselves while understanding the boundaries that ensure the rights of others are respected.

4. Mutual Respect

Respect is a cornerstone of our school ethos. We promote an understanding that everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and consideration, regardless of differences.

5. Tolerance of Those with Different Faiths and Beliefs

Our diverse school community offers a rich tapestry of cultures and beliefs. We celebrate this diversity and educate students on the importance of understanding and accepting different perspectives, fostering a culture of inclusivity.

By integrating these values into our curriculum and daily interactions, we aim to prepare our students to be thoughtful, responsible citizens in modern Britain.
