Welcome to Bumblebees and Ladybirds!

We are so excited to welcome you to our Reception classes, where learning is full of curiosity, creativity, and joy! In the Early Years, children learn through play, exploration, and discovery — both indoors and outdoors. Every day is an opportunity to grow in independence, develop new skills, and build confidence in a warm, supportive environment.

In Bumblebees, your teacher is Mr Jelf and your assistant teachers are Mrs Edwards and Mr Brown.
In Ladybirds, your teacher is Miss Mason and your assistant teachers are Miss Robinson and Miss Capewell.

Below you will find some useful information to help your child feel happy and ready for school life in Bumblebees and Ladybirds.

🏃‍♀️ PE Days

PE is on Friday afternoons. Children should wear their PE kits to school on this day. For safety, earrings/jewellery should be removed and long hair tied back before coming to school, wherever possible.

💧 Water Bottles

Please send your child with a labelled water bottle every day. Bottles should be taken home each evening, washed, and refilled for the next day.

🌦 Outdoor Clothes

In Reception, we embrace outdoor learning in all weathers! Please provide a puddle suit and wellington boots that can stay in school. These can be collected at the end of each term to be washed.

✏️ Equipment

All stationery is provided — no pencil cases, or backpacks are needed.

---

📖 Learning at Home

Reading is at the heart of our Reception journey. Please record home reading in the reading record provided — we aim for at least four reads per week. Reading records are checked regularly on a Friday, although they should be in book bags every day. Each child will bring home a reading scheme book as well as the phonics sounds they have been working on that week. 

The children also have a blue home learning book with activities to be completed each week.
