Here you’ll find our termly newsletters and updates for Year 1, along with information about the exciting activities taking place in school.
We set weekly homework, and children are expected to read at least four times each week, as we do see the most progress in children who read at home. Their RWI school reading books will be changed every Friday. Children are encouraged to hand in their reading records and books on Friday mornings upon arrival, allowing us to monitor progress and provide new books as required.
In addition, we send home a list of Year 1 Common Exception Words each term. These are words that children cannot sound out but are expected to learn to spell. We will test the children on these spellings at the end of each term.
All children also have a Numbots login. Please encourage your child to work through this progressive programme at their own pace.
From Term 3, we will begin weekly number bond checks. All children will start with bonds to 5, which should be recalled instantly. We will then move on to bonds to 10 and 20, halving numbers, doubling numbers, and finally counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. Mastering these key mathematical concepts will really support your child as they move into Year 2.
Thank you for your continued support.
The Year 1 team.
