Rationale for the computing curriculum at Abbotswood (Intent)
At Abbotswood Primary School, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to use and experience a range of new technologies. We aim to encourage children to become computer literate, enabling them to fulfil their potential in an increasingly computer-dominated world. Learning key transferable computer skills such as typing, research, coding and data handling concepts will enable them to adapt in an ever-changing and technology rich environment.
During their time at Abbotswood, all children will learn to use a range of computer technology. Children will also learn to become safe, respectable digital citizens, and be confident in selecting appropriate computer technology for a variety of uses in the outside world.
Aims of computing at Abbotswood:
As a school we aim to:
How is computing taught at Abbotswood? (Implementation)
Computing is taught weekly at Abbotswood Primary School. The children are given the opportunity to use a range of technologies including laptops, I-pads and a range of physical resources including beebots. To enhance the well-structured and progressive computing curriculum with clear links between year groups, the school makes use of a range of computer programmes including Discovery Education coding as well as many cross-curricular programmes like TTRockstars.
Online safety is a key element of the computing curriculum and at Abbotswood, a minimum of 1 lesson is taught each term, following the Digital Literacy scheme of work, Project Evolve.
If you have any questions about computing, please contact our computing subject leader - Miss Sian Griffiths.
